Robert Mark Eber, age 60, of Lynnwood, Washington, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday August 6, 2012. Born in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of the late Robert and Reta Eber of Hamden, Connecticut.
Rob graduated from Hamden High School as a National Merit Student, earned his BA in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Connecticut, a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Delaware, and his PhD in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts.
He played clarinet in both his high school and UCONN’s Marching Bands He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and a ham radio operator. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and youth group in Hamden. As a Boy Scout, Robert earned the Pro Deo et Patria award – a religious award established by the Lutheran Church in 1943. He was also a member of his high schools Folk Music Club and the English Honors program.
Rob was a member of MENSA and Toastmasters. He enjoyed stamp collecting, chess, the fantasy, horror and science fiction genre, Anime, and his cats.
Robert worked on the NASA space shuttle while employed at Morton-Thiokol, and spent a year in Ireland doing research in fire protection engineering issues at the University of Belfast. He was employed at Boeing as a Design Engineer for the 787 Emergency Lighting System, part of Boeing’s Commercial Interior Division, at the time of his death.
Robert is survived by his son, Alaric Eber, of Newark Delaware, and Pat (Alaric’s mom), his sisters Janine(John C.) Fagan of North Haven, Conn, and Karen (Connor) Davis of Sarasota , Florida, and his brother Bruce (Cindy) Eber of Wallingford, Conn, aunts and uncles, one niece and several nephews.
Robert, you will be sorely missed by your family and friends.
A memorial service will be held in Connecticut at the convenience of the family
