Robert Rene Quickstad

Robert Rene Quickstad, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on October 7th after a short illness.

He was the only child of Virginia Collett Quickstad and Herbert M. Quickstad. Bob was born in Seattle on May 8, 1929 and lived his early years in the Roosevelt District where he attended John Marshall Junior High, Roosevelt High School and graduated from the University of Washington in 1951.

Bob had many friends and was very active in several school bob quickstad outstanding senior-1951organizations. He was the art editor of the Roosevelt yearbook in his junior year and student body president his senior year. Bob went on to attend the University of Washington where he was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, was active in student affairs and a member of both Purple Shield and Oval Club. During his senior year he was editor of the Columns humor magazine. Bob was also a member of Sigma Delta Chi, the professional journalism fraternity, and graduated with a degree in journalism in 1951.

robert-quickstad-1998Following graduation Bob edited the AAA newspaper before serving in the Navy as a lieutenant junior grade in the Philippines during the Korean Conflict. Bob worked a short time for the Hoenig Cooper advertising agency before joining Pacific Northwest Bell. During the next 28 years Bob worked in various parts of the Bell System before moving to New Jersey with AT&T as a Director of Employee Communications. After retirement he returned to the Northwest and worked at the Vocational Technical College in Kirkland for five years.
 
In his retirement years he spent many hours painting watercolors and playing golf and tennis.

 

Bob was a loving husband to his wife Nancy, a caring father to his four sons, John (Kathleen), bob-and-nancy-quickstad-at-u-villageTracy, Tom (Allison) and Jim, and a proud grandfather to his seven grandchildren Michela, Kent, Christy, Renee, Brian, Matthew and Madelyn. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Emerald Heights for the gentle care they gave Bob during his last few days. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to your favorite charity. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at Sammamish Presbyterian Church, 22522 NE Inglewood Hill Road, Sammamish, WA 98074 on October 24, 2015 at 3:00 PM.
