1937-2018
Bob passed away on August 17, 2018, at Evergreen Hospice Care Center, Kirkland, Washington. He was born in Seattle on October 19, 1937, to Dr. John I. Wilson and Flavilla Mae Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Aurelia (Lee) Wilson, son John Ross Wilson, daughter Kerry Ann Mayhall, daughter-in-law Cheryl Wilson, son-in-law Kurt Mayhall, four grandchildren, Nicholas Mayhall, Amelia Mayhall, Luke Wilson and Malia Wilson, sisters Patricia Fernandez and Susan Watson, and brother Richard Wilson, along with ten nieces and nephews and their families.
Bob lived his entire life in the Seattle/Kirkland area, except for his tour of active duty in the United States Air Force, four years of which were served in Wiesbaden, Germany. He worked for many years in the title insurance industry until he retired in 2001. He followed in his father’s footsteps and became a member of the Free and Accepted Masons when he was raised to Master Mason on January 5, 1989, in Kirkland Lodge #150. He served as Worshipful Master in 1996-1997.
He continued his Masonic life by joining the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and was elected to receive the 33° of the Rite with the Class of 2005. He was also a member of the York Rite of Free Masonry. He was installed High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons, Overlake Chapter No. 67, in November 2000. He was a member of a variety of concordant groups along the way and received many awards for recognition of his dedication to the Craft. He was a member of the Nile Shrine in Mountlake Terrace and joined the Golf Club and Calliope Unit. He served as Captain of the Calliope Unit several times.
He had an enduring interest in children and young people and worked tirelessly for years with many organizations. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed participating with his son’s troop and served as Scout Master for the local area. He was a Director of the Scottish Rite Early Life Speech & Language program and the Scottish Rite Scholarship Foundation. He was also a Past Associate Bethel Guardian, Bethel #57, Kirkland, International Order of Job’s Daughters. He joined Kirkland Kiwanis because of its mission for “improving the world one child and one community at a time.” He loved being a member of the Nile Shrine Calliope Unit, driving the calliope in many parades over the years and reveling in the smiles and wonder of the children as the calliope drove by.
Bob was proud of his military service and, since 2005, he was a faithful and dedicated volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in Seattle. He was an avid golfer over the years and played many courses, but one of his favorites was the Nile Golf Course. In recent years he enjoyed playing with three friends who graduated from high school together in 1955 – Duane Wentz, Fred Davis and Ken Leren! So special they had stayed connected/re-connected all those years!
Bob loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a quiet, kind gentleman; a faithful, loving husband, adoring father and grandfather and a loyal friend. His spirit will live on in the memories of his family and friends as we mourn his loss. His wish would be for us to wipe away our tears and remember him with smiles and wonderful memories.
