The family of Ryan David Astle of Woodinville, Washington is saddened to announce his passing on February 5th at the age of 47 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his parents Keith and Linda Astle; son, Korbin Astle and Korbin’s mother, Jennee Scudder; brother, Ken Astle and his wife Janelle Selk; sister, Christy Astle, her husband Dominic Lopez and their daughter, Delilah Lopez; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Ryan grew up in his parent’s house in Woodinville, which they have owned for 50 years. He and his siblings had a classic 80’s movie-style childhood with a great group of friends that would stay for Linda’s army sized dinners nightly.

The four musketeers, Ryan, Ken, Matt and Aaron had pine cone wars, ran through the woods, made bike ramps, and played badminton with a net their dad set up in the backyard. One of the classic stories Ryan told was having a “scavenger hunt.” They purposefully crossed off several items, leaving money and toilet paper as the last items needed. They used the cash to buy more toilet paper and TP’d the entire neighborhood. His fun-filled childhood fueled his passion for movies like The Goonies and Back to the Future.

Ryan graduated from Woodinville High School in 1996. He lettered in Track & Field and Diving. He and his best friend, Kent, went to Western Washington University and were roommates. One of Ryan’s favorite college memories was teaching badminton.

Ryan was diagnosed and treated for a cancerous brain tumor in November 2005. He was in remission for 17 years. When he was re-diagnosed, he moved from Bellingham back into his childhood home with his parents.

Despite spending so much time in and out of doctor’s appointments, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he had a great ability to make others smile. Ryan enjoyed being close to his family again and talking about his memories and favorite movies. More than anything, he was a proud father. In recent years, he was especially delighted to go to parks and arcades with son Korbin and niece Delilah.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
