Thomas (Tom) Joseph Loftus

Thomas (Tom) Joseph Loftus passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on March 16, 2020, at Mariana’s Adult Family Home in Newcastle, Washington.  He was born on January 3, 1921, in Seattle, Washington, to Dewey George Loftus and Genevieve Elizabeth Morris Loftus. He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Lorraine. Tom was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II, from June 14, 1944 to August 25, 1946, in the U.S. Marine Corps, reaching the rank of Corporal.  He spent the majority of his career with the Boeing Company, where he retired after 40 years of service.  While at Boeing, Tom met Martha, his wife of 47 years.

Tom enjoyed fishing in Sekiu, as well as hunting, traveling the West in an RV, and spending winters in Yuma, Arizona with his wife and good friends. Tom and Martha hosted and attended many potluck parties in their Yuma neighborhood throughout the years. One of their favorite activities was jeeping in the desert.  Tom was a skilled craftsman and built sheds, garages, barns, desks, as well as decorative art pieces he gave away as gifts.  Tom kept his tools extremely organized and labeled everything in his garage so he could easily find them for his next project.

At the time of his death, Tom was survived by Martha, whom recently passed away on July 23, 2024. Tom was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia (Patty) Loftus Bonaci.  Tom is survived by Patty’s son, Stephen Bonaci; step-daughter Kathy Olson, her husband Lou, and their daughters Rinda and Megin; and step-son Steve Staudt, and his children Debbie and Brian.
