April 21 1927 – November 15, 2017
Viola Pontecorvo passed away peacefully on November 15th 2017 in Kirkland, Washington at the age of 90. Viola or Vi as she was known to her family and friends was born in the Bronx, NY. After her marriage Vi lived on City Island, NY, Alexandria, VA, Chatham, NJ, Belmont, CA, Bellevue and Maple Valley, WA, Brussels, Belgium, Rome, Italy, Annandale, VA and Kirkland, WA. Moving as a result of her husband’s work, Vi enjoyed every place she lived. Her love for travel and passion for art took her to every corner of Europe. Traveling with her husband and sometimes her children, Vi was always at home no matter where she landed.
An aficionado of art and art history, Vi could name all the great masters and their works. She visited museums across the US, Europe, and Russia.
Vi was also an accomplished artist herself, painting with acrylics, water color, and more recently pastels. Her paintings won awards and praise from family and friends. She was an avid gardener, and her award-winning roses were admired by all who visited. Vi was a voracious reader, and rarely without a book in hand.
Vi was a loving wife, and mother. Her sixty-eight-year marriage to Joe was rare and truly special. She loved each of her children in a special way, and inspired each of them to embrace life with passion and humor.
Vi is survived by her husband Joe, her three daughters: Carol, Linda, Mary Kay, her son Joseph, and her foster daughter Rosemary, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Family Parish of Kirkland, on November 27nd at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Holy Family Parish.
