Wanda Whealy, age 96, passed on to her eternal life on January 28, 2019.
She was born in Casa, Arkansas in October of 1922 to Alva and Virgil Burris. They then moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma where she grew up with her two brothers, Martell and J.C. Burris.
It was in 1945 when she met Thomas F. Whealy, the love of her life. They married that same year and moved to Seattle, Washington. Later, they moved to Mercer Island, Washington and built a beautiful home. They raised their 2 children, James T. and Paula Whealy in that home. When they retired they moved to Port Hadlock, WA. It was cold and rainy there so they would winter in Yuma, AZ.
Wanda was a home maker that enjoyed her gardens, did crafts, cooked and sewed her clothes. She belonged to the “Ladies of the Elks” and the “Red Hat Society” where she served her community and socialized with her friends. She attended the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church.
Wanda is survived by her daughter, Paula (Whealy) Gallagher, her son in law, Patrick H. Gallagher, Her grandson, Matthew J. Gallagher and her granddaughter, Melissa A. Gallagher. Her son, James T. Whealy predeceased her in 2016.
Wanda’s cremated remains will be placed with her beloved husband, Thomas F. Whealy, at Tahoma National Cemetery in Auburn, WA. There will be no formal services.
