William Eric “Billy” Garvin
With hearts full of love, we celebrate the extraordinary life of William Eric “Billy” Garvin—a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend—who left this world too early, Thursday morning, November 14, 2024.
Billy’s absence leaves a profound void in the lives of those who cherished him most—his beloved wife and soulmate, Rebecca Jo; his treasured children, Trip Quincy and Leilani Raquel; his loving sister, Brenda Janelle (Bill) Herzog; and his nephew, River Thomas (Madison) Herzog.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Harriett Janelle and Frank Barnes Garvin, and brother Charles Collett, whose memories he carried close to his heart throughout his life.
Born on June 2, 1969, in Bellevue, WA, Billy grew up in Maple Valley, where he attended the Tahoma School District. From a young age, he embraced life with curiosity and passion—whether playing little league football, exploring his flair for fashion, performing in drama productions, or engaging in lively debates.
Billy’s journey into the beauty industry began after he married Rebecca and worked in restaurants, eventually leading him to attend Gene Juarez Academy in 1991. His artistic eye and dedication quickly set him apart, and he excelled as a stylist, specializing in design cutting during the first decade of his career. As a member of the artistic team, he thrived at hair shows, sharing his talent and passion with others. Billy later joined 7 The Salon, where he expanded his expertise to color and became the Director of Education during his fourteen years there. After the salon’s closure, he returned to Gene Juarez, continuing to care deeply for his clients until his retirement in July 2024. Even during his cancer treatments, Billy remained committed to his craft, reducing his schedule but never his dedication.
As a father to Trip and Leila, Billy led with humility and grace. He believed in making amends, ensuring no argument or misunderstanding lingered unresolved. His children learned the value of accountability and forgiveness by his example, as he never hesitated to apologize and model compassion. Raising these beautiful children with Rebecca was his greatest accomplishment in life.
Billy was a deeply spiritual and introspective man, unafraid to ask difficult questions and challenge convention. His love for meaningful conversation was evident during late-night fireside talks with friends, a glass of wine in hand. Billy’s chosen family of dear friends—Katie and Patrice Adjibly, Cindi and Paul Reichlin; and Kelly and Steve Keyser—stood by his side through life’s adventures, challenges, and triumphs, sharing in his joys, laughter, tears, and unwavering bond of friendship.
These friendships, rich and enduring, became the cornerstone of his life. Together, they embarked on countless adventures and navigated lifes’ challenges as the “Vino Voyagers,” creating memories filled with laughter, tears, and love that will be treasured forever.
A gifted storyteller, Billy had a way of teaching, connecting, and healing through the stories he shared—of his family, his clients, and his experiences. His inquisitive nature led him to seek understanding by learning the stories of others, always encouraging those around him to listen deeply and approach life with empathy and love.
In the 22 months following his cancer diagnosis, Billy’s resolve to live fully only strengthened. With Rebecca and their children by his side, he sought out unforgettable experiences, traveling to Europe, New York City, Croatia, Sage Cliff, Suncadia, Palm Springs, Whidbey Island, Hawaii, and their cherished retreat on Orcas Island.
Billy’s life was one of love, artistry, and unrelenting spirit. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the memories he created.
A memorial service to honor Billy’s remarkable life will be held at Seattle Church of Christ – Queen Anne Church, 2555 8th Avenue W, Seattle, WA 98119, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 3:00 PM, with a reception to follow.
As a token of love and support, the family invites donations to Fred Hutch Cancer Center in honor of Billy’s enduring spirit and to support the fight against cancer.
Billy will be remembered not just for his talents and achievements, but for the way he made people feel—valued, heard, and deeply loved.
